A Broken Arm and Surgery

Sarah broke her arm Thursday night, February 8th, by falling off the ladder of her bunkbed. Her upper arm, the humerus bone, was completely fractured just above her elbow. Luckily, Carey rushed in the room and found her, because if it was me, I'm sure I would've passed out in hysteria. He said her upper arm was bent a way that arms don't bend. Ouch!
The paramedics came and put some special blow-up splint around her entire arm and took her to an ER close to our house (Placentia Linda Hospital). While there, she had X-rays and tests measuring blood flow, and her arm was placed in a splint at a 90 degree angle. The ER doctor then contacted a pediatric orthopedic doctor, who told us to come right away to CHOC hospital. By this time, it was past 1am.
We arrived at CHOC at around 2am, and she had surgery at 4 in the morning on Friday, where they put pins through the broken bone so it can heal properly. We came home from the hospital on Friday, late in the afternoon. She has been the bravest little girl through all of this.
She's doing well now and resting on the couch being a giant TV junkie! Good thing we have an overabundance of DVDs! ;-)
